The Famous Rag Rug Flower Bag!

Rag rug flower bagInspired by a project in Jenni Stuart-Anderson’s book “More Rag Rugs and Recycled Textile Projects” I’ve been decorating ready-made hessian bags.  The flower is hooked with a variety of wools in the centre, then the petals are prodded using a range of reds and the leaf outlines are hooked in a variegated green yarn.  I embroidered my initials in rug wool on the reverse.

My friend Hazel suggested I line the bag and helped me make the prototype.  After some hiccups (one lining too big, next too small, aaargh!) I seem to have got the hang of it!

I’d like to do a workshop in this technique but it is pretty fiddly, especially trying to work through the bag opening into the hessian without breaking any threads!  There’s also a lot of different skills and tools involved.

I’ve sold three of these bags so far and this one is for sale through my Etsy shop (www.tillergirl1.etsy.com – £29.50 plus p & p).
